About Artisan:
In 2009, Samoolam (meaning collective roots), a socially conscious movement of rural women started in Gaya, Bihar (India). The designers and craft women design crochet work with ethos focused on minimalism to create functional and affordable products. Handmade utility products with little hearts that dance with love. The initiative employs and empower over 130 rural women in Gaya.

About Craft:
Crochet is process of interlocking yarn and thread using a crochet (meaning hook) to create textile and objects. The first substantive evidence of crocheted fabric emerges in Europe during the 19th century. The craft was brought to India in the early 20th century by a missionary couple from Scotland and expanded across India, mostly by women, to create religious prayer rugs and caps as well as aesthetic and daily life products.
